Include the whole bed setup- i.e., mattress, foundation of the bed, and its frame- while measuring the full height of the bed. This helps you determine the comfort of getting in and stepping out of bed.
The standard option lies between 8-8.5 inches and a lower profile option is 4.5-5 inches. Be thoughtful of your bed’s height while pairing the mattress with it as the combination of a thick mattress with the standard foundation can be too high and can cause discomfort in easy movement.
Test the size: If possible, lie down on the mattress in the store to get a sense of how it feels and how much space you have. Make sure to lie down in your preferred sleeping position and see if you have enough room to move around comfortably.
